Chicago Crime stats very telling.

I lived in Chicago for 2 years. Very strict gun control, yet some of the highest murder rates in the country. Here are some interesting factoids that show where the focus SHOULD be:


In 2005, 75% of murders involved a firearm, and 11% were the result of a stabbing.
Ok, so guns are a problem (in a city where guns are not allowed by law)

10% of murders in 2005 (39) were the result of an armed robbery, 9% were of undetermined cause, and at least 30% were gang altercations.
Well that leaves a lot of unaccounted for murders, but gang violence is the problem.

Over 40% of victims and 60% of offenders were between the ages of 17 and 25.
So young adults are the problem and the target.

85% of victims and 93% of offenders were male.
Ok, men are the problem.

Over 75% of victims and 88% of offenders had a prior arrest history.
Wow! So criminals are the problem....doh!

Since Steve in NC likes to call me out as racist, I will let the following City of Chicago data present itself with no interpretation by me:

76% of victims & over 77% of offenders were African American in a city where they make up 35% of the population.
5.6% of victims and 5.3% of offenders were white in a city where they make up 50% of the population.

Victims of gang-related murders: 70% Black, 26% Hispanic, 3% White; 93% male.
Offenders in gang-related murders: 76% African American, 20% Hispanic, 3% white; 99% male.

Victims of domestic-related murders: 79% African American, 10% Hispanic, 11% white.

Victims of armed robbery—related murders: 68% African American, 13% Hispanic, 19% white, 89% male.
Offenders in armed robbery—related murders: 87% African American, 9% Hispanic, 4% white; 93% male.

The neighborhood with the highest rate of murder per capita called Fuller Park. Here is its demographic make up:


Oddly its heating fuel pie chart looks almost exactly the same with Gas at 91%, Elec at 5% and Other at 4%.....so I guess it could be the gas.
